History

Pine Valley Outdoor Centre Trust was established in 1984, when the local school closed a group of North bank settlers, Education Board representatives, teachers, REAP, scouts and guides formed a trust with the intention of developing the area into a camp for the benefit of the district's children.

The idea was to give them somewhere to go that was affordable, somewhere that gave them new experiences, developed their self esteem and confidence and gave them an appreciation for the outdoors.

Over the 26 years since, thousands of children have stayed here as school groups, along with scouts, guides, youth and community groups and families.

The Trust that maintains and administers the camp are all volunteers.

Val and Lloyd Mapp are the guardians of the camp.  They were members of the original Trust and they farm the land around the centre.  They live 1km further up Pine Valley road.  Val takes the bookings, checks the grounds and buildings after the camp group leaves and is willing to help make your experience a memorable one. Lloyd and Val are happy to share their extensive local knowledge on things to do and the history of the area.
